American Express Director, Strategic Initiative & Finance TLM in Salt Lake City, Utah
This is an exciting and challenging role in Controllership within the American Express Finance organization. The position supports the VP & Chief of Staff to the EVP, Corporate Controller and plays a vital leadership and strategic role in the effective operation of the organization, driving and supporting high profile initiatives on behalf of the Corporate Controller and the broader Controllership organization.
Controllership is comprised of over 1,500 colleagues in more than 25 countries around the globe and partners with business units and staff groups across the Blue Box to ensure financial integrity and a strong control and compliance environment.
Plays key role supporting the Chief of Staff in the execution of high priority deliverables on behalf of the Corporate Controller, including ensuring the execution of Controllership priorities, helping to oversee organizational strategy, and creating key presentations for internal and external constituents.
Serves as trusted advisor, challenging leaders to help drive discussion and decision-making.
Key contributor to deliver against Controllership Build an Inclusive and Diverse Team goals, including specific support of I&D initiatives
Provides support to the Controller and Chief of Staff, working closely with the CEG partner, to help set and execute talent, performance, development, recruitment, and compensation initiatives/reviews.
Leads the tactical team for Finance to deliver against the elevated requirements of the Company’s Third -Party Lifecycle Management (TLM) program; utilizes project management skills to execute on a plan to enhance workflow, ongoing oversight and reporting
Partners with S&T to help drive organizational strategy initiatives, providing insights on trends and organizational needs
Leads a team of two colleagues in India who manage the $145MM Controllership operating budget, including monthly results review, on-going financial projections, and the Risks and Opportunities process
Collaborates with the CLT and their MA/DA’s to ensure completion of key organization deliverables and with the CFO VPA and FLT support teams to deliver against pan-Finance initiatives
Builds and leverages relationships, using a strong network of partnerships across the organization to drive deliverables to closure
Influences respectfully beyond direct authority and across band levels to drive results
Handles multiple responsibilities concurrently, pivoting as circumstances change and staying calm under pressure
Plans for medium and long term; is organized about his/her work and deliverables, pays meticulous attention to details
Ability to understand financial concepts and experience working with P&L’s and forecasting/budget process
Demonstrates a risk and control and compliance mindset

5-7 years of experience in a Finance-related role
