Job Summary

As part of the Department of Surgery Administrative and Financial team, this position will be instrumental in developing and implementing policies, programs and financial objectives for the Department and its nine Divisions in relation to accounting and finance functions, including (but not limited to) financial analysis and reporting, general accounting, payroll, cost accounting, budget formulation, and treasury. Participates in preparing department budgets and enacting Department and Division goals.

This position will have a dual role as the financial management analyst for the Division of Urology.

It is anticipated that approximately 50% of the time will be dedicated to Department level activity and 50% will be dedicated to Division activity with direct interaction with the Division Chief.

Responsibilities

1.Prepares and interprets management information and other financial reports.

2.Prepares unique financial and operational reports based on Department/Division/Faculty needs.

3.Develops and manages Divisions’ budgets, projects budgetary requirements for special projects and initiatives.

4.Provides information related to planning, policy development, work methods and procedures, organizational structure, information management.

5.Provides program and operations research and analysis.

6.Analyzes new program plans, goals and objectives.

7.Assists in the preparation and evaluation of special projects.

8.Develops and implements policies and procedures related to department/University financial issues.

9.Analyzes financial documents, historical data and presents to and interprets for management.

10.Analyzes trends and possible consequences.

11.Recommends and implements improvements that affect accounting systems and departmental operations.

12.Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships with the divisions, SOM Dean’s Office, SVPHS Office, University Hospital, and other departments.

13.Brings creativity, motivation, flexibility, and strong work ethic.

14.Serves as part of the Department Administrative and Financial team.

Problem Solving

The problems and solutions encountered by this position vary depending on the area and structure of the department. This position frequently addresses problematic situations and often acts a mediator or a negotiator. A major task for this position is to understand the needs of individuals and determine what products and services should be provided to meet those needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Health Care Administration, or related field, or equivalency; four years of progressively more responsible management analyst experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
